This new decal sheet from Thunderbird Models includes markings for one World Wide Airways Mosquito Racer. World Wide Airways was a Canadian Airline started in 1947 by Canadian aviation pioneer Donald McVicar. In 1948 Don bought the first 2 Mosquitoes sold to civilians. He paid $1500 for each one with one of them only having 45 hours on it. He sold the second one to American racer Jesse Stallings for use in the Bendix Air Races. Don was also quite interested in racing his Mosquito in the Bendix Air Races but ongoing mechanical problems enroute kept him from realizing that dream. He did get his racer painted up in the company colours which is the subject of this article. Don did help with cargo transport in the making of the DEW line early warning system in the far north and his company also It also flew livestock and foodstuffs to embargoed Cuba during the 1960s. The licence for his company was revoked in 1966 for political reasons and he was featured on the cover of Time magazine in 1966. The instructions are clear and include 2 side views. The decals are beautifully printed on 1 decal sheet.
This is de finitely a very cool decal sheet for anyone with an interest in the Mosquito or Canadian aviation history or Air Racers. And this plane did eventually make it to the Bendix Air Races under the ownership of Don Bussart. You can buy this decal sheet and many other decals and other modelling products from Thunderbird Models.
