  Greece National Day 2005

Hi everybody, this is the first model I've built, after a 10 year long break in modelling. One fine Friday, since I had finally managed to rent a place on my own, I decided to drive to Athens (I live near the port of Piraeus) & visit the "hot-spot"  of the modelling supplies market, "Ippokratus Street".  There, the majority of Athens' model shops can be found within a range of 300 square meters! So you guessed...Paradise for the styrene addicted personalities!!

Anyhow, I was attracted to the model you see on your screens and together with some paints & stuff I left for home.

At this point I would like to mention the person & best friend who introduced me in serious scale modelling, Mr. Jason Stuart. I hope that he is doing well back in the U.K. & has accomplished his dreams.

There I was  finally, struggling with Italeri's terrible fit, but happy that I finally had a workbench of my own, inside my living room, without the risk of damage from third hands.

Again, at this point I feel the need to mention that the whole collection of a/c models, tanks & military dioramas from my early days, were demolished within hours by the hands of my then 4 year old nephew!! Quite a lot of spare parts one may say!

Anyway there I was, total lack of references,  no airbrush, "what on earth is a photo etch detail set?" or "I thought resin is used for boats!" attitude, but 100% happy! Suddenly those boring afternoons became so interesting, all childhood dreams for aviation came back to life.

And then it was time for the internet....

Loads of information, tips, techniques, references & pictures, all within a "click's" distance! Great sites such as this (thank you Steve) have brought us out of the dark ages of the past. Most of those things are taken for granted nowadays, seemed like a distant, exquisite, top secret kind of knowledge available to the very few who could afford it.

Well enough with the lifetime's account, here are some details for this model, it is brush painted, the decals I believe are incorrect as far as position & actual airframe is concerned (don't even know if the Hellenic Army has received the Longbows ordered yet) but altogether felt nice when completed.

Happy modeling! (Remember, it's fun!)
