1/48 Italeri Eurofighter Typhoon

Like most Italeri kits, their EF-2000 Eurofighter forms the starting point for a nice model.
To end up with the model you see here, a number of additions (and a considerable amount of work) where needed.

The inspiration I took to build my Eurofighter fully armed up, was from a publicity photo at www.eurofighter.com. Incidentally, this site is a good source of relatively detailed pics of various EF-2000's.

I used the following aftermarket accessories. Eduard PE set, Airwaves MB. Mk16 seat, AMRAAM Line TIALD pod, Hasegawa GBU-16 1000lb LGB.

All other detailing is scratchbuilt from plastic card and copper wire.

The following enhancements where made to the kit.

  • Scratchbuilt cockpit rear shelf & canopy interior

  • Detaching and repositioning of flaps and rudder

  • Additional wing pylons moulded in resin using kit pylons as masters

  • All pylons repositioned and pinned using brass to correct locations

  • Scratchbuilt interior detailing of exhaust fingers.

  • Sidewall detailing of all wheel wells

  • Detailing of nose and main gear (hydraulic lines, replacement of oleo scissors etc)

  • Detailing of nose and main gear doors.

  • Scratchbuilt fins for drop tanks and AIM9 nose fins.

  • Brass sheet used to provide louvres on APU and cooling exhaust vents.

  • Numerous fit problems corrected using plastic card.

  • Scribing of additional panel lines not present on kit.

I hope you enjoy the end result.
