1/72 Italeri IAI F-21A "Lion"

Gallery Article by Fabien Antonietti on Feb 24 2011

From the old and fairly complicated Italeri kit, with the help of the Hasegawa Kfir C-2 Kit,  I made this U.S. Marines late F-21A seen in Yuma, Arizona, near 1988 with VMFT-401.

Besides some personal improvements on the Italeri kit, Hasegawa improves basic Italeri especially with a windshield angle correct and parts thinner to achieve the landing gear.  The detailed Martin Baker MK-JM6 ejection seat, is made from the Italeri part.

The General Electric J79-J1E exhaust is from Aires (F-4 phantom or late F-104G).

Inspired by the first leased VF-43 Navy Kfir ghost gray camo in 1986, this late U.S. Marines Kfir camo schem was quite different.  All colors were produced by mixing several grays from Gunze or Tamiya. The painting was long and gradual to adjust color and contrast until the end.

Decals are from IsraDecal IAF-70.

Hope you enjoy this little "Lion" and Thanks for looking!
