Italian Armed Forces Days 2009

In 11/4 of every year Italy celebrates the National Unity and the Armed Forces, and in the following weekend the Italian Services show part of their assets in many locations; the most spectacular place of these is the “Circo Massimo” in Roma, behind the archaeological site of the “Domus Augustana”, not so far from the “Colosseo”. A great number of people have “attacked” a/c, choppers , armoured vehicles and simulators with cameras and questions, and doing good pics was very difficult (too many kids against one airfan..... L )

One of the most beautiful presence was the front section of the F-104S/ASAM “9-99” Ducati created by the GEA (Gruppo Efficienza Aeromobili) of Grazzanise AFB with a very special feature, an IFR probe used only in tests by the “ASA” version prototypes! Other vehicles of the AF: AMX, the “Pony 0” of the “Frecce tricolori” group, AB-212 ICO and the Macchi MC205 Veltro: very useful for the modelers was the RB199 training engine structure from the Tornado.

From some of other Services: the Navy displayed an AW-101 Merlin, weapons and systems like the MU90 torpedo and the ejection seat from the Harrier Plus; the Army has taken land systems, like the MBT Ariete and the Phz2000 self propelled gun, and air systems like the NH-90 and the A-129 Mangusta helicopters. Another chopper present was the AB-412 of the Coast Guard. Other services showed other materials but it was difficult to do “people-free” shots. I hope in better changes for the next year.

Bye
