Kit # 520

Brief History
Known as the “Jug”, the Thunderbolt proved herself to be one of the most rugged fighters of WWII.

Powered by a 2,300 hp. Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engine and armed with eight .50 caliber machine gun, the P-47 was uniquely suited to fly ground support and interdiction missions against ground targets.

When called upon to fly cover for American bombers, the “Jug” proved outstanding there as well. The turbocharged engine & 13 foot diameter propeller, along with long-range fuel tanks enabled the P-47 to easily fly into Germany from bases in England.

Thunderbolt…..feared by the enemy and respected by her pilots; was one of the finest aircraft of WWII.

Model :-
This is my 24th Article on ARC. The model was made out of the box, one thing I must mention is that, if Testors wants to compete in manufacturing good quality scale models, then it must improve its detailing, because this model had NO cockpit details, not even a joy stick or side panels as you can note in the picture, I would not recommend this model to any serious modeler, as it lacks the details.

The casting of parts was O.K, there were two options either to make P-47 Bubbletop or P-47 Razorback, I chose Bubbletop. The gun barrels were cut out & replaced by small tubes, but not in a proper line owing to my bad eye sight . As usual the model was airbrushed “Silver” using Testors Enamel. For decals I did not use the kit decals but instead used “Aero Master” sheet # 48-538. For panel lines I used “Promodelers” wash, it is something all modelers must have.

NOTE : One thing to note is that all these invasion stripes on the wing & fuselage are painted, after they were painted I came to know that Micro-scale makes P-47 invasion stripe decals in 1/48 scale, then it was too late to scrap it.

As you can see seat belts were made from masking tape & metallic foil as can be seen in the photo, on the bomb which it carried has a writing “We are coming”, I tried my level best to bring details to this model, I hope you like my work.

Next Model coming up is Revell (Japan) 1/32 scale P-40 Warhawk which is round the corner.
