The kit engine was replaced using an Engine and Things R-2800-8W.
The whole interior was scratch-built and was finished out using Waldron interior parts and placards. Although this Revell F4U kit is marketed as an F4U-1D, it is far from it. It more closely resembles an early F4U-1A and even that has some accuracy problems. With a little tinkering though it makes up into a Nice F4U-1D!
The wing modifications included cutting out the flaps and replacing with the Lonestar Models flap set.

I then added the Lonestar Models wheel well set, and scratch-built pylons for the bombs. Also scratch-built was the landing gear linkage using brass stock. The landing gear doors were also obtained from Lonestar Models.

The model was finished in the markings of Marine Corps ace and Medal of Honor winner Major Gregory "Pappy" Boyington, VMF-214 "Back Sheep".
This model took 1st place in the large scale aircraft division of the Rocky Mountain IPMS held Sept.29 in
Longmont,CO.
