Model
The model is the excellent Tamiya Corsair F4U-1D
built essentially out of the box with the lonely help by the Eduard photo
etched set dedicated to this warbird. I choose the Zoom set number FE103 that
offers to you the essential to improve your Corsair, but talking about the
Tamiya sprue.....The cockpit was the first element built with the addition of
the Eduard's set: the result is astonishing!!!
Please remember that "no floor on the
Corsair", so you MUST make attention on airbrushing all the interiors if
you don't want, peeling off your masking tape from the lower fuselage window
(the one under the pilot's feet!!!), recognize that you leave some gray sprue
portion inside; and when you glue, fill and paint the aircraft can't coming
back in the past.....Once everything was set I painted all the cockpit with
Aeromaster acrylic interior green 1049, washed with black oil color and dry
brushed with interior yellow by Testors enamel, than I hand brushed all the
little particulars in red and white to gave some breaking tones to the
cockpit.
The rest of the construction went as planned (some
troubles on the wing concerning the folding section) and it's time to paint!
First I applied a good pre-shading with Humbrol black and as dried I sprayed
with my airbrush all the aircraft with Aeromaster acrylic Sea Blue gloss ANA
623 with 5% of white, rising the rate to 10% when the interested area was the
central part of each panel in order to highlight the painting scheme. The
choice of the aircraft to replicate was Wing 167, bu nbr 57803 flown by Capt.
Roger R. Hedrick,
VF-84, USS Bunker Hill, February 1945, with the yellow cowling band temporary
covered: With this aircraft he scored his 12th kill.
Conclusion
The model is a delight to build, paint and very
small amount of filler is required. Don't hesitate to buy this Corsair, it's
worth all the money you spend. So I'm ready for the next one!
